Pratt Master Sculpture ClassSeven basic forging processes comprise the foundational visual language of blacksmithing, most often employed to create decorative and utilitarian objects. In this class, we will explore forging in the context of sculpture. Students will create sculptural volume from bar stock and sheet steel which expresses the strength, plasticity and organic qualities of the metal. Discussion of craftsmanship, content, composition, proportion, presentation, structural integrity, and finish will be balanced with hands-on work at the forge. Beginning Blacksmithing and Welding experience recommended.
