I get handed a fair amount of pictures and asked 'can you make this?
This catalog has some neat ideas, not from Mexico or Pakistan but Egypt,

As a frequent visitor to Egypt...Khan AL Khalielie Market in Cairo(the back alleys where the stuff is made) I can only say that those smiths(all kinds) will blow your mind with how little they need, in material and equipment to make really awsome stuff. The scary thing is, allthough he may be a third generation smith with incredible knowledge he'll be lucky if he earns more than a 1$ to 3$(USD) a day.

I think I saw in the Smithsonian an aluminum hardhat that had arabic repousse' on it in similar mind-blowing fashion. They do have an attention to detail that eludes most people
