Hey Guys:

Just finished this sample of my art for a library... Who would have guessed that they would want a blackberry vine???

The idea is to show the flow and growth of one community to the rest of the communities...

Had Brent Christiansen cut the leaves for me... Made a "Mini Max" type machine using a $20 Harbor Freight (gag) air chisel. Thanks, MacBructer for the idea!! I can texture and vein a 16 ga. leaf in about 2 minutes cold, using this tool!!! I built a spring fuller for the Little Giant to create the "groove" in the vines...

Just tack welded the guide on so with a little tap, I could adjust for the size of the tapered vines...

Hope y'all like it... and hope I get the job!!! One does wonder, 'cause getting the job would mean making some 2 to 300 leaves...CryCryCry

Yeah, HTF did you do those thorns? Looks like they they would work for roses as well if they were a little bigger. The thorn detail is always conspicuously absent on all the metal roses I've seen.....BTW it's called a Zipmax (.net) tuvm.........Cool

Sorry Bruce, Zipmax?? Guess mine is a HFmax:giggle:. Again thanks for the idea... Worked great!!!

I silver brazed the thorns on... Built up a little pile of material and brazed in a piece of 1/16th welding rod for the small vine, and a piece of coat hanger for the larger vine... I then cut the wire off at a sharp angle.

Somehow I didn't figure those thorns would be easy, silver brazing sounds like a lot of work to me.
I'd like to see what your HFmax looks like.....Cool

Silver brazing isn't all that difficult... Just takes practice. It's like soldering, if you get your metal too hot... no braze.
Took me a couple hours to get it down, and once I had it, took only about 2 minutes per thorn. I could tell the thorns that weren't brazed well 'cause they'd come off while I was wire wheeling the vine:stomp::stomp::stomp:
Here is my HFmax.

This last veiner was handy for doing a kind of one sided raised vein.

Still seems like it's pretty labor intensive to braze em on...........Tell me did you make the flat spot on the shank of the chisel or did it come that way. Ive never see one of those pistol grip rigs that didn't allow the chisel to rotate.

yup, I ground the flat spot on the chisel... Drilled thru the side of the hammer and tack welded a roll pin to keep the chisel from rotating...

Pretty clever Lynn.....I would have thought the chisel barrel would be very hard and tough to drill but maybe that's an advantage with a HF unit....Cool.....Most adaptations I've seen use a rod welded perpendicular to the chisel that indexes to a fork on the frame or visa versa. I've have cheap air tools I thought wouldn't last for spit still cranking after 20 years.

Hey Lynn, your samples are stunning, I hope you get the job!

What is the one thing I miss the most from living on the Coast? Blackberries. They don't grow here in the prairies, we can now buy blackberries from California in the store, but they don't taste the same as I remember.
