The supplier where I have bought my alloy and tool steel was bought out by a big world wide outfit (uddeholm bohler ) and the price of the H-13 I was buying went up over 50% The last 1" cost $91 for a 12' stick... this morning they told me it was going to be $144 a stick... That works out to $4.25/lb

They are the only local place I am aware of to buy alloy and tool steel so I dont know that I really have much of a choice unless I have something shipped in... But it just seems like a lot of dough... The 1" is now a buck an inch.. Three sticks, one of 3/4, one of 1" and one 1 1/4 was $450... Anyway I just wanted some feedback.... Wondering how prices are in the rest of the world? If that is just the going rate or am I getting reamed?

Whatever you are, be a good one.

Global steel prices have increased over the past couple of weeks, especially in Asia.

But 58% is a lot more than just a spot-price correction.

No matter where you go... there you are.

Larry,
Find a product about the size you need in H-13 made in China, I’m sure the finish piece will be far below the price of just the steel, now how do you suppose that could happen?:banghead:
Bob

it's been fun, later!

try moses b glick on ebay

I was getting h13 1 inch for 1 buck a pound a couple months ago he had 4000lbs of h13 on there

I also picked up for s7 for about 2 bucks apound and it was 1 3/8 round or something like that

this guy pretty much has everything someone like you or me wants and more the name you can search is mosesglick49

to ship to canada I use ldm international (a broker)
they usually take the fedex cost and cut it in half and then I send the shipper the label
the shipping itself takes LESS time then fedex has ever taken for me I dont know how or why but they actually try to get it to you within 3 days even across the boarder and everything! which no one else even usually will have it to you with 2 weeks.

it takes them sometime to send you a label though because they need to broker a deal on get in on loads that fedex is desparate to fill in.

they charged me 61 dollars to ship 100lbs of steel to canada in a 10' x 10' x 4ft box
living in the states you might be able to do the same for 30 bucks

I sent those guys a couple emails asking for a shipping quote... did not get a reply so I called them... they said they would get back to me..... never heard another thing...

I'll send them another email.... But I can tell you already they get a F for customer service

Yeah Brent rocks.... I own four tools he made including my primary forging hammer...

I dont think he uses much H-13 though? Im not sure, but I agree he would be a kick ass demonstrator
