"boy Id like to take that class with Nathan... As far as I know Nathan has the only other Kick Ass 150 hammer that is in the hands of a working blacksmith.. I talked a bit with him at ABANA last summer about it and fondled many of his hammers... A talented guy "
I don't know Larry, It would be a hell of a distance from your place to NJ for a one day class though you'd certainly be welcome. You guys ought to see about getting him out to one of your events or for a workshop. About right now he's probably on his way to Maryland for the Gichner Memorial Hammer In, which is where I should be already but work got in the way today so I'll head down early tomorrow morning instead. (I typed the beginning of this post about an hour ago but coincidentaly Nathan called from the road just as I was typing and I've been on the phone with him since.) We talked a little bit about how your two KA 150s differ slightly among other things. I hope he sells lots of hammers at Gichner's and I sell at least a few burners too.
What I'm really looking forward to though at the Gichners' event this year is Brian Brazeal's demos. I was so busy at Abana that I barely saw he was working never mind having a chance to watch. I won't let the opportunity slip by this weekend. Lots to learn there. Steve G

Yep, I did spend a bit of time watching Brian but not near enough.... He is impressive to watch... As far as getting Nathan out here its the same problem, It wouldn't work for a one day class, couldnt cover his expenses... To be able to make it worth the instructors while, pay there travel and lodging He would have to put on like two three day workshops with 5 or 6 students each..

Blacksmithing = hot work, shaping metal while it's hot.
Simple enough?
I bet there are purists who believe that furniture made with glue is a travesty, and I bet they have a tiny niche market for their goods.
My job is making beautiful, functional things that are esthetically satisfying to my customers.
I guess blacksmithing is just a part of it...
