Mineral, an art gallery in Tacoma, WA, is pleased to announce a call-to-artists for the Second Annual Chastity Belt Show, to be held in August 2010. Artists are invited to interpret one of history's most notorious curiosities whose roots are shrouded in medieval lore. While examples of such devices have been exhibited at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, the Doges Palace in Venice and the Musée de Cluny in Paris, in reality the chastity belt probable never knew wide circulation. However, as an anti-sex device (for both sexes), variations of the locking belt were in use from the 1700s to the 1930s.

This year's entries will be juried by Sarah Traver, director of the Traver Gallery.

Guidelines:
* This year's show focuses on metal work and blacksmithing of the highest quality and originality; works in mixed media or photography are also acceptable.
* Due to the diminutive size of the gallery, please - no 3D pieces bigger than the approximate dimensions of a regular belt (or about the size of a breadbox when closed), and no 2D art larger than 22" wide (height may be longer). Do not include your own mannequin for the jurying.
* Approximately 15 works will be selected for an exhibit from Aug. 14 - Oct. 16 (dates to be confirmed). Please submit the actual art work for consideration (no drawings, thanks).
* Deadline for entries: Art may be delivered on Sunday, August 1 (10a.m.-4p.m.), or Thursday, August 5, (noon-5p.m.). Deliver to Mineral, 301 Puyallup Ave. - Ste. A, Tacoma WA 98402 (253/250-7745; see http://www.lisakinoshita.com for directions). Please include your name, title of the work, price, and resumé.
* No submissions will be accepted after August 5.
* Art works will be juried by Sarah Traver, director of the Traver Gallery. First prize is 50 bucks and bragging rights!
* Pieces not accepted for the show will be ready for pickup the weekend of Aug. 7-8. The gallery does not assume responsibility for unsolicited works, and appreciates your cooperation in picking up art in a timely manner. Thank you!

Thanks Lauren! I posted it on the Calendar of Events.

but then there are others who, with the help of their art and their intelligence,
transform a yellow spot into the sun.” ~ Pablo Picasso ~
