We are looking for half a dozen folks who are willing to put some music out there for opening ceremony (and maybe a bit more). Would prefer that you had some experience playing in front of people. The idea being we would gather up these folks via emails, come up with a song list and keys to play in, and maybe a short little practice on Thursday Aug 18th before opening. Well figure out amplification, what we would call ourselves, and stuff as the group forms. I would really like some help and figuring out, contacting, the fellow who is a regular at the conferences… kinda older, slight studer , and plays a great fiddle. Thanks Joe

Joe: Eric Sprado here. We've talked but never picked together. I've been semi professional fiddle player/singer for 50 years. Came to Eugene playing with Hoyt Axton. Be glad to be of help. I have sound equip for my fiddle. Also have complete sound system but would prefer not to haul it to conference as I'll have steel etc. in my rig too, but can if you don't find any other. You can hear a couple of my songs on Fiddle Hangout or can send you over a CD. Eric 541 964 3224. Your friend David Thompson can vouch for me .......No longer have band that I had for 25 years 'cause we're all dying off... shit.....

Joe- are you wanting a ready-made group or open-mike types?
Check out my group The Fabulous Hammers @ http://www.facebook.com/#!/The.....7675755167
We specialize in 60's NW garage music. Think sonics, wailers, louie louie, hot rods, girls, that type of stuff~

Hey Steve
You're band looks great and fun. I am really hoping to pull this group out of our association. I think there is a lot of hidden talent amongst us. This will not be open mike, but rather I see us getting 6 or so people signed up then coming up with a song list and doing some practicing on out own. Hopefully we can get together sometime on thur before opening ceremony and do a quick practice. I think this will just be some good clean fun with a bit of entertainment thrown in. You interested?

Steve sorry to hear your declining but I understand the discomfort of performing with loose ends. I think it is a lot to ask of a band to show up for about 6 songs though, I know how much work it is to pack up, set up, sound check etc. For me personally, I like my music served up a bit on the raw side, the best magic coming from those unrehearsed moments. The “white toast” sound of well practice music can take the living room comfort away from the music, which may or may not be what were looking for. I guess bottom line for me is…. dare to suck.

Hee! I can suck plenty well alright!~
I understand completely about the sponteneity factor. I take it you're going for the appalachian feel?
I got me a washboard to audition with the Hammrin' Hillbillies!!
That I could throw in the truck, a whole trap kit is another story...

Congrads Joe: Somebody finally inspired a post from me. I have an HD28, sing leads mostly and around 35 yrs. under the belt as an amatuer. Don't know yet if I'll afford the Fall event in Ore. but I'd like to consider it at Mt. Vernon. in the Spring. You seem to be talking my kind of music. I agree too that you shouldn't have any trouble pulling that off. Kevin

Wow, Steve, sounds like you’re a blacksmith and a drummer… you’re wife most have a real good job. “Appalachian feel” hmmmm wonderin if ya thinkin bluegrass.I’d be lying to you if I said that stuff doesn’t turn my crank, but I am going to let the instrumentation dictate the “feel”. Would love to get a k-board or horn in there (anybody ?). Music selection will be somewhat event appropriate, for instance Fire on the Mountain (marshal tucker) or Mama don’t let you’re babies grow up to be blacksmiths, etc.
Kevin please send you’re email address to me. I am thinking HD28 = pre 70’s Martin…. gotta love that and singer to boot yippee oh ky yay . Without tipping my hand to much this is shaping up to be..... Berkeley Tack (Harp), Steve Lopes (Mandolin/Bass), Eric Sprado (Fiddle), Jeffery Funk (Percussion), Kevin Brame (Guitar/Vocals), Evan (Guitar), me (whatever)
