a good question and not easy to answer for everyone.... easy acess to I-5, the availability of lodging - Stevenson was pretty limited in that respect, more options for dinners out, options for transportation from Portland airport, a large covered venue with people who really want us there. This is not to say that Stevenson was at all lacking in enthusiasim, far from it, we both liked it alot! We need to give this venue a chance....we are looking at this point - nothing is set in cement - just trying to do the best for the NWBA..
this does not mean that we will never have other venues - kicking around having an Eastern WA Fall conference - just saying....

NOW You're talking!!! I had a welding business in Kodiak in the late 70's. Would love to go back to that easily accessible spot for a conference.
I wasn't being adversarial with my question-just curious.... Hope Longview is a nice place. It is a reasonable mid ground for folks on the I-5 corridor. Thanks for your efforts Larry...

You folks just arn't devoted enough. Who cares where the conference is? Last I checked Im coming for the smithing and good friends, I really dont care too much where its at.
I personally would go back willingly to all but one site we have had conferences at in the last 13 years. Hell, I will even go back to Smoke Farm, but I cant promise I would be happy about it!
The Stevenson site is a pretty good one, but im excited to try out Longview.
Does anyone know if Longview has hot showers?

Actualy it does. The goal is go get people who have never picked up a hammer hitting hot steel. We will have handwork contests and events.
Whatever you are, be a good one.

Please let me help kick. We've got 45 or more blacksmiths of various skill levels and a lot of wannabee blacksmiths in eastern Washington and northern Idaho, most of whom have never attended a conference but would like to.

I can't answer your question but I've found a few things just by searching online. First of all, here's a Google satellite image of the Clark County Fairgrounds.

The Expo Center features a 100'x200' indoor equestrian arena. I presume this would be our main demo area.

A 40'x100' awning is available for private gatherings. That might make a suitable covered camping area. I have no idea whether the awning has been discussed nor how much it would cost us to have it set up. They're website just mentions it's existence.

There appear to be a number of livestock barns which might also be available for covered camping - just my speculation - a board member would need to confirm that.

my post was really just a poke to hopefully get someone on the board to answer Craig's question. =)
I was going to ask again some day, But I was staring to think, I was on everyone's the Ignore list. (:
I googled the site too, but that doesn't tell me if we have that area or not for camping.
