Been thinking alot about Grant in the past week. His business's name was "Off Center Products". He developed and produced some of the finest blacksmith tools in the country if not the world. One of his slogans was:

"We've upped our quality, now up yours!"

Grant Sarver passed away just over a year ago on Jan 2. Over the years he became a good friend. It is often that I miss his late evening phone calls to discuss blacksmithing, some aspect of this web site, politics, the next issue of the Hot Iron News, or the world situation. And too frequently a corny joke.

Somewhere he is working on another new idea.

Rest easy brother.

He was a sponge for trivial facts, obscure concepts, scientific innovations, and the infinite methods for manipulating steel. Though he genuinely enjoyed putting these ideas to use for his personal and professional enrichment, his true love was sharing all those bits of information with his family, his friends, new acquaintances, anonymous beginners on internet forums and befuddled grocery store clerks.

I submitted my application to join this site on 12-27-11. A couple of days later, I sent Grant a private message, asking him if he could accept that application so that I could post on this site. He kindly accommodated my wish. The following day, Grant Sarver passed away. I was deeply stunned and saddened by this turn of events. Grant Sarver and I had dialogued about blacksmithing many times on IFI, and I always found him to be knowledgeable, courteous, and generous with his advice and information. The passing of Grant was an enormous loss to this craft and humanity.
