Hey folks,

I'm going to be attending the Mark Aspery classes at the mentoring center next week Tuesday-Friday. I'm also going to be going down a day early (Monday) and staying for the mentoring center event on Saturday. With a whole week down there that close to the Cowlitz river during the steelhead run, and with the early springers showing up in the Columbia I can't pass up the chance to fish the area.

I'm planning to bring my jet sled down with me and fishing the Cowlitz for steelhead all day Monday, then fishing the Columbia for spring Chinook (springers) before and/or after class the rest of the week. If anyone in the group is going to be attending the Mark Aspery events or the mentoring center, or just happens to be in the area and wants to join me on the river, let me know. I've got plenty of room in the sled for passengers.

Thanks,

--Tracy

The class was great. The fishing, not so much. I hit the cowlitz at Blue Creek all day Monday. No steelhead in the boat.

Tuesday the Columbia was closed, so I launched at Castle Rock after class, and tried to find some non-muddy water. I got as far up as Olequa before I decided that it was mud or nothing. The sealions didn't seem to mind the mud, but I didn't get any fish.

I tried the Columbia on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday after class. No fish then either (lots of sealions though). Probably not the best time of day to fish, and with only about an hour and a half on the water before dark it was a short window.

Saturday after the morning demos I went out again, anchoring up off Diblee beach on the Columbia for most of the day. Again no fish, but a nice sunny day to relax in the boat.

The springers will be running for a while though, so I do plan to return.
