well considering he bought an anvil on ebay. paid a grand for a 250lb anvil and thinks it will do the work for him, on top of the fact that i asked around at the time an none of the big time knife makers had even heard of him kind of leads me to believe his idea of opening a samurai sword school is a pipe dream.

you can just open a sword school doesnt mean anyone is going to take your class, or that you know what you are doing.

kindof like the guy i saw with an add down the road from me who was advertising blacksmithg classes. never heard of him either.

I used to have those drawings and made my grinder off them. They take a lot of time, tons of holes to drill accurately. By the time you buy all the odd bits of steel and your wheels it is not that much or any cheaper than that polar bear grinder.

I will take a look and see if they are somewhere on my computer but I don't think they made it when I got the new computer.

Check out my DVD on my web site at http://www.waynecoeartistblacksmith.com. I don't think that it can get any simpler.

I looked for sanders for a while, and then found one that works well for me. go to norme coote belt sanders. Areal gentleman, and his shop is a pleasure to visit.I also like to shop local. He is at Mats Mats Bay ,just north of port ludlow. The price is right. turn-key made the difference for me.

Good Morning,

I was talking to Al Bakke (Saskatoon) the other week and he told me about a knife grinder that Travis Wuertz makes. see http://www.twuertz.com It is called a TW-90. it is not cheap but it does everything you didn't know you had to do.

Wuertz Machine Works, Casa Grande, Arizona

Enjoy the video's

I built a Kmg cloan of blue prints that where avalible frum the Don Fog website. There are lots of hols to drill and tap but I simplley welded mine together. with 2hp vfd and all the contact weels it cost $600 to make. but has all I want. the first 2 picks are with the vfd the 2nd 2 are when I first bult it with step pulleys and 1 1/2 hp motor.

Question for the pros here (I'm not very well versed in vfds). I have the opportunity to buy a 5hp Baldor 3phase 1750 rpm motor for $90. It is essentially new. I realize that's a lot of motor for a grinder, but quality 3 phase motors at a good price do not come up for sale often in my neck of the woods.

Can any of you see a downside to using this motor with a vfd on a grinder? I remember Larry saying he would use a 3450 rpm 3 phase motor with a vfd on a grinder. Would a 1750 rpm be too slow with the vfd speed maxed out? Or would I be able to run a very small pulley at the motor and still have the torque to drive a grinder with larger hp motor?

Please correct me if my interpretation is incorrect here. You run single phase (whether it is 110 or 220v) into the VFD and you get 3 phase 220 volt out of the vfd to the motor?

Thanks for your input.

5 HP is a lot of motor for a belt grinder. Used 3 phase motors are usually quite reasonably priced because of the limited number of purchasers.

I don't sell a VFD that will run a 5 hp motor. When the brand I sell gets over 3 hp you must have 3 phase in.
If you want to use 115v power in you will probably be limited to 1.5 hp.

The KBAC VFD have a jumper to double the speed of the motor so an 1800 rpm motor is what I recommend.

My 1.5 hp motor is $247.50. Maybe the extra $150.00 is worth it for a 3 year warranty.

Thanks Mr. Coe. A grinder isn't in my near future right now. However, I would like to get one eventually. The motor just popped up for sale locally so I thought I would do a little research before I miss an opportunity with it.
