I am having so much trouble finding things that I have decided to just skip visits to the site. I was satisfied with the old site. I miss the 'What's new' button the most.

When we are having financial troubles and attendance at the conferences is down I can't understand why the NWBA directors would choose to alienate folks.

Best of luck with your new site.

Please keep the dues I paid for this year and remove me from your member roster.

The little math quiz on every post is silly.

Dave,
I am sorry that you are feeling alienated, that was definitely not what the board was wanting, and not what I wanted at all.
The forum contents in the new site is exactly as it was in the old site. The what's new button has changed, and it does not work as nicely as the old what's new, but I am creating a workaround for that. I agree that What's New needs to be easier to find and read. I am not sure what else you cannot find, if you are specifically looking for something that is not there then why not ask me? I put some of the members only stuff into the main web pages because they were not really conversations, they were things that should be in a page instead. So if you need help there I would be glad to answer your questions.
The gallery pages are coming back as are the HIN pages, there was a giant technical problem that is resolvable and is on the to do list.
The articles, and events should be easier to find now, that is what I changed the most on the site. I agree there are a lot of bugs to work out, but I believe they will be worked out. I am looking into changing the math quiz for members' posts now, that is the kind of feedback that is helpful to me and I can respond to.
We will miss your contributions to the NWBA, if indeed you really are leaving. It does not really make sense to me that your dislike of the website will cause you to leave the organization completely, you will miss out on a lot of events and blacksmithing... but maybe you only wanted to be a part of the forum.  In any case I am sorry that you are so unhappy with the website that you have decided to quit.

Man...

I dont want to say bad things but I am lost, my head hurts just trying to figure out whats going on.    I have posted on dozens of fourms and I got to say this is the hardest to navigate and hardest to understand of any formats Ive experienced.

vbulletin seems to be the standard everywhere?

My guess is the traffic is way down, Its taken me several visits to the site just to figure out that the forum was even up.  ;-(    I dont want to say Im giving up but I sure don't feel compelled to spend time here.

Honestly Amy,  I know your working hard and trying to improve things, but this seems like a giant leap backwards.    I know most of the board are Luddites, I also know that most of them have a hard time seeing the value in the forum.    I am sad to see this,  The forum might have been the only good part of the old website, but its what generated the traffic.  This might be a superior program with lots of great features but its completely alien to those of us who are used to vbulletin.

I dont know what anyone else thinks, but I understand Daves frustration... :-(

I am sorry to all who think the forum is impossible to navigate. In the move of the forum I did not change the forum structure very much at all. The main thing I changed was moving some of the NWBA members only stuff into the content management pages, that is, under the main menu links. Al Bart Grant, Library, Member Roster. Other than that the forums are all under the same headings, with the topics and threads all the same. All the attachments are there too. I may be dense but I am not sure why it is so hard. I get that you hate it and I want to address those issues.  I think some people agree with you and others do not.

Give me some examples of what you are not finding and maybe I can help you.

If I open the new/updated list above and click on a topic I get "access denied" you do not have permission to view this topic.    Typically the "new content" on a forum is listed by the thread name, not the category and it is listed as the last post first.

Here are some examples

http://www.iforgeiron.com/inde.....app=forums

The flow of information on all these is typical of forums I have visited and seems intuitive.   We don't randomly search through topics but rather look at the most recent posts in active threads.    All of these will keep track of your visit and only show you things that have been updated since you last viewed the thread when you visit the "new content" spot.

With the stuff at the side of this page is hard to follow.  it seems like the information is there but its just a big run on paragraph that you have to read though the entire thing to see whats there?

I couldnt find a button to insert a web link?   I hovered over everything above and nothing seemed right.

Im sorry Amy,  I know this is a lot of work and your trying to make everyone happy.  I dont want to be a thorn in your side, but I  dont see myself using this site and it just makes me sad to see it.     It seems like its a struggle to do anything and it keeps telling me I cant do simple, intuitive things

I click on "for the good of the order" at the top of the list to the right, which seems like it should be the newest, last post since its on top and it brings up a list of 3 year old threads..

I see now that it lists both the forum category and the thread and you have to click the thread to go to the content.

Larry,
Thank you for all these specifics. I agree these things need attention. Now I just opened the forum and without doing anything else to it since I last looked at it the pages are broken. I am working hard, but many unpredicted things are happening. I really really appreciate your trying to show me what is going badly so I can try to fix it.
I am sad too that you are discouraged to the point of possibly giving up. thank you for understanding that I am not trying to ruin things for everyone.

I think I changed the limits on links in a post and image uploads... but I am testing it here.

http://www.westernstatesconference.com

https://www.facebook.com/pages/NorthWest-Blacksmith-Association/130176373670236

http://www.abana.org/

just typing the address, or pasting it in, created the link.

here in Internet Explorer, the image upload does not seem to be working.  Onward while I see if I can make it work elsewhere. I am not sure if this problem is caused by a conflict betweens plugins on the site, as I was able to upload images before in Internet Explorer.

I am testing right now as an NWBA member, not admin.

As it appears to me right now, it is Internet Explorer that is not showing the additional post editing buttons,

 scottstudio.jpgImage Enlarger

clubhouse.jpgImage Enlarger
davelischPipeworksmst.jpgImage Enlarger

and I am able to upload 3 files at a time, but it takes a second. I add the files in the attachment dialogue box, then start upload. then when I am brought back to the post content to continue editing it takes a moment or two for the other images to be uploaded. This is using browser Chrome. Internet Explorer would not open the file selection popup so I could add the attachments there. I am going to explore to see if it is a setting in my browser that prevents that popup from opening or a problem with Internet explorer in general.

Amy, I want to edit a post.

I want to correct the thread? title to read New Classes Listed, and not New Class Listing. I posted under Schools, Studio 4 Forging Facility in the forum area.

Also, on another but similar topic, I went to Schools under the pull down Resources button and went to Studio 4 Forging Facility and the link to our class listing page goes to one that is way old, I would like the link to take you to the current page, can this be changed? By me or you?

http://davidlisch.com/Learn.html

I kinda miss the preview option on a post,  but can live without it.

thanks

Andrea,

I changed the topic title for you, though I think you actually have access to do that. I know NWBA members have the capability of editing their own topic titles. I will research this by logging in as an NWBA member (instead of Admin), and see where that button is.

I also changed the link in the school listings as per your request.

I will report back here about what I find out regarding editing topics, and previewing.

Regarding Topic Titles:

If you are logged in, you can edit your own topic titles:

Go to the Main Forum Page, where Forums are listed. (there is an up/down triangle on the right side of the lists, just under the button 'Group RSS', which when clicked either expands so you can see all the sub forums or collapses to hide them)

Expand the Forums and subforums until the topic you want to edit is showing in the list, just the topic titles, not the posts under each topic.

Then, when you find the one you want to edit, and it has to have been created by you, you mouse over the TOPIC TITLE and just to the left of it pops up a little picture of a wrench. Mouse over that wrench and you will get the popup message "Open the forum toolset". In there you can choose to edit the topic title.

Thanks Amy. All though I think this topic may have been covered some where else in the forum. Or did I Thank you for some other clarification:) I admit, I am a little confused as to where to go on the website for all the latest info.

I also realized that this post goes way back to Dave Evens and I am not sure what he is talking about when he said "The little math quiz on every post is silly." ???

I really appreciate your hard work Amy, handling the website is way more techie than I can go.  I also appreciate Larry's insights and comments, he posts HERE more than anyone. He was a good board member, understands the NWBA, and can give you some feedback that can take the website in the right direction. We need to have this site work for our group and I am glad you have these open channels of dialogue.

Andrea,
There are many places where the new things are listed.
On the HOME page the Upcoming Events and Recent Posts (articles not forum) are in a list on the right hand side of the page. On HOME page at the bottom of the page are a list of the most recent Forum posts.
On the Forum pages the list of the latest forum posts, most recent at the top. The links need to be fixed to show up in a better way... the first link in each listing is to the Topic itself, which may go back pretty far, the second part of the link which is the specific new thread takes you directly to the new post. I will be working on changing the way it displays so it is clearer and doesn't take you to the ancient first post in that topic.
I will be working on these things in a manner that may seem slow, but to hack into the code for displaying what I want takes some thinking room and I don't want to go breaking the pages... so I am taking it on when I have a bit more time in a sitting to attend to the details. I am sorry that the job is taking so long... I have to actually do paying jobs which takes me away from the website rebuild.

I don't visit this site much, but I used to be able to see new posts in the most dominant placement on the opening page. Now what is see is from 3 to 8 years old.

I see that your site is under going some changes so maybe this will be one of the changes

in the makings.

A lot of things is like the upgrading of Windows, the new produce is never as good as the

that was setup and running smoothly.

Why did you mess with something that wasn't broken?

That is just my 2cents.
