How do I put and avatar on. I went to the settings page but it will not let me do anything, the box marked do not use avatar will not uncheck. or maybe I am missing something

You should be able to edit here:
click custom avatar > option 2 > choose file

I have the same issue.... Maybe it has something to do with the browser? I use firefox.. I have found it creates issues on some fourms..

This is what I get... no option to check any thing other than no avatar
