 Hi there,

I am brand new to this marvelous practice of Blacksmithing. Despite my screen name I would at best call myself a steel masher at this point but hey, gotta start somewhere. I love making things from any medium I can. My fiance bought me a class for my birthday @ Pratt that introduced me to Blacksmithing and it seems like a perfect fit. I am in north Federal Way and just attended my first conference. I am not great in groups of folks I don't know despite everyone there seeming very friendly. I hope to get a little more comfortable via some chatter on these forums so I can tap into the knowledge of the talented artists in the PNW area.

Hi Bo! Nice to meet you, I'm Rowan, aka Stabby Crackers, Pirate Blacksmith haha. I'm pretty new to all of this myself (met someone in August who has been extraordinarily kindly mentoring me) but it's just the best thing ever, isn't it? Let me know if you're ever down Portland way, maybe we can fire up old Smaug 🙂

Hello and welcome Bo!  No need to feel shy with this group, we're just a bunch of folks who enjoy each others contribution to this fine art, be they big or small.  Sometimes it's a large project, or sometimes it's small as a ring, pipe tamper or bottle opener.  The main thing is we love moving metal, and we all started out trying to figure out how to make our forge, tongs, hammers or how to draw out a taper and not get too many blisters.   You'll find most of us enjoy sharing how we did what we do with a minimal of prodding.  So much wisdom, so hard won is going to our graves if we don't share it, that it is pretty easy to get it, if you but ask.     Martin
