Hello from Ridgefield, WA | Introductions Come First, Right? | Forum

Hello everyone,

I'm just starting out on my journey in blacksmithing.  I've been trying to educate myself over the last several months, but have yet to strike hot iron.  I'm a liberal arts major who works w/ engineers.  Over the last 15 years I've built cars, motorcycles, rifles, rc cars, watches and tube amplifiers.  But in a lot of ways, most of that was really about assembly.  I made my own parts here and there, but I think blacksmithing really appeals to me, because of the transformative property of the art.  You literally make something functional out of raw material.

I suppose wood could provide the same experience, but wood and I don't work so well together.  Lol

This past weekend I finished building a propane forge. That made me smile. 

I've ordered a hammer and tongs.  They should be here in the next few days.  I'm now on to procuring an anvil and a vice.  Will let folks know how it goes.  I'm looking forward to learning from members on this forum, and providing any help I can.  I have a tendency to make memorable mistakes, so will be sharing those as they occur.  If nothing else, I'm good for a laugh 🙂
