I picked up this drill press off of Craigslist last week. $75. It's an Orbit Industrial benchtop unit. Seems pretty well built and beats the heck out of all the home store units I've been seeing on Craigslist. It came with the rolling cart it's mounted on.
Now I need to find a deal on a bandsaw.

These were actually imported by Jet. And are made in Taiwan. I still have mine, bought new in mebbe 78, and use it daily. I particularly like the round table that swivels and spins- It means you can bolt a vise down, and locate any hole just by spinning and swiveling the table, then locking in place. much safer than a loose vise on a drill press table, like many people use.
Jet still carries most parts for these.

Funny you should mention the loose vise. I spun the vise on my drill press yesterday and broke my left index finger. ER yesterday afternoon and hand Doc tomorrow. Good thing I know some under-employed sculptors.
Tom, That looks like a nice unit. You'll be amazed how much of a difference a good drill press (and decent drills at the right speed) makes.

I've been preaching this to construction workers for a couple of decades. "High speed steel" means to run the drill as fast as you can, right? [Image Can Not Be Found]
The carpenters are bad enough but give a drill organizer to a laborer and you might as well kiss them goodbye (or get out the Drill Doctor). [Image Can Not Be Found]

Thanks, Ries. I recently found a Jet vise for it at an estate sale for $10. I use the vise just as you suggested. Works great.
