Some new dovetails for a friend of mine. Probably hogged off 3 or 5 lbs of matl for this job,

about a full day of labor there only because I'm such a hack. With the shaper you can't walk away too often. Gotto pay attention in the corners.

Thats my experience as well.... Ive cut a few dovetails now on my shaper but the reality is I got a machinest who works cheap enough its hard to justify doing it myself.... The lower die for the 4B started off as a 12" chunk of 10" round and he finished machined it including the dovetails for $175.... At that kind of money im better off doing something I can make money at and letting him do stuff im not good at anyway...

Hah, fortunately this job is actually paying for a day's wages, from a fellow blacksmith no less~!
For $175 a die, you should buy the guy dinner! Grant charged me $1000 for that pair of 3B dies of yours. Seems to me that's always been about the going rate.

Yeah, this one one, I picked up and delivered the material and paid for the heat treat seperate... So It's always nice to have the option to do it in house even..
