Hansen Wheel & Wagon Shop Introduction
Motivated by a love of history and a desire to preserve our heritage, Hansen Wheel & Wagon Shop focuses on the traditional craft of the coach-maker, and has grown into the premier builder of authentic, horse-drawn vehicles. For over 30 years, our experienced staff of dedicated craftsmen have fashioned a line of superior-quality wagons, wheels, and equipment.
Located in SE South Dakota, near the city of Mitchell, population 15,000; this location on the plains of the Dakotas is just one of the many reasons we closely identify with the pioneering spirit and traditions of the West. We live our work, love what we do, and take great pride in providing our customers with the most historically accurate horse-drawn vehicles anywhere this side of the 1800’s.
For us, it’s a commitment to exceeding expectations, while delivering results that mirror the handcrafted quality of old world artisans. We are dedicated to serving customers who value and appreciate historically accurate horse-drawn vehicles and accompanying accessories. The staff uses traditional joinery to construct operationally ready products such as wheels, wagons, carriages, and coaches. With a steady 1 year back log of work, it is obvious that authentic quality craftsmanship never goes out of style.

POPULATION SEGMENT
Hansen Wheel and Wagon Shop, Inc. focuses on those segments of the private and public population that are users of historic vehicles, vehicle parts, and or the accouterments relevant to these units. Some of these entities include: movie sets, commercial marketing departments, i.e. Budweiser, Disney, Wells Fargo Bank, museum exhibits, theme parks, living history villages, historic forts, wagon collectors, trail riders, horseman, dude-ranch operators, interior designers, landscapers, advertising companies, history replicators, United States revolutionary and Civil War enthusiasts, special event promoters, display companies, and hobbyists.

We are dedicated to the tradition of excellence, and are currently seeking to fill two positions on our team:
-Blacksmith
-Traditional Woodworker

We offer an exciting opportunity for creative individuals possessing a mechanical aptitude and artesian attributes. Media includes wood, leather, iron, and a variety of finishes.
If you are a highly motivated, responsible individual and possess a positive attitude and ingenuity, with a personal attention to detail, you may be just the person we are looking for.

JOB DESCRIPTIONS

Blacksmith -
Rewarding, creative blacksmith position available; involved in the restoration and replication of horse-drawn vehicles using traditional methods. Vehicles include stagecoaches, hitchwagons, Conestoga wagons, carriages, farm wagons, etc.

Required Skills:
· Applicant must have expertise in the tasks of a blacksmith; such as forging, bending, milling, forming and finishing of metals, and welding (in the marriage of metal and wood).
· Familiarity with how the old blacksmiths built wagons in the days of the "Old West."
· Applicant must possess the creative capability to transfer the details of historic wagons as seen in museums, collections, and imagery, into the products of the company.
· The capability to proceed from initial construction to finished product with the help of conceptual sketches and ideas is also necessary.
· Blacksmith will be involved in heavy lifting of materials (often over 50 pounds.)

This is not a production job. Our projects involve all custom work. Applicants should have above average craftsman skills, mechanical aptitude, problem solving skills, creativity, and artesian attributes. We are willing to train talented, skilled, motivated individuals with metal working or welding experience.

Traditional Woodworker This is a very rewarding career with opportunities, entailing the construction of horse-drawn replicas and restorations.
The primary function of this position is to fabricate and restore historic, horse-drawn vehicles in the true fashion of the old masters. Experience in traditional woodworking joinery is required.

Candidates will need strong problem-solving skills and a high mechanical/artistic aptitude. Work will be conducted in a modern facility performing custom, not production work, in an exciting and rewarding environment.
· Must have journeyman level knowledge in woodworking industry.
· Must have extensive knowledge of woodworking equipment.
· Good problem-solving skills and a willingness to learn.
· Ability to work productively in a team-oriented environment
· We are willing to train talented, skilled, motivated craftsman in the field of coach making.
