I really like your place, Poleframer. Mine is poles too, and lumber from the place and just the essentials in tools (like to have more) but some fire for other uses, like making pizza or roasting coffee or taking a sauna or just sitting.

Wow Ken, that's great. Are all of those pics from your property? Very nice.

The Pole framing/ Post&Beam is a skill I would love to learn.

Regards,
Tim

Thanks. I'm just a carpenter kind of trying to make the transition to working on my own, roasting coffee or doing something out of the shop. All of the pictures are our place. The original log house is behind the big one. We started here in a salvaged shack without electricity. Glad we finally came into the 20th century. Some things are hard to forge weld and computers don't run on steam. Take care.

Hey Ken, nice work. Poles are harder to fit than sawn framing, but I think they instill a mood to a building like nothing else can.
Did you get the logs off your land there?

The poles are from my place, but most of the logs for the house I had to get elsewhere. It's a ten acre piece, all wood lot except for the yard. Many of the trees are 16 inch diameter now, but were smaller than I wanted to use when I built. I'm thinking about putting in some solar but I would have to take out a good section of trees to the east, kind of hard to bring myself to do after tending the wood lot for 25 years. I can see us becoming an island of trees here after things develop more around us. The old people in the woods surrounded by McMansions. A chunk of pasture would allow more animals though. That and the solar gain might be incentive enough. I hope things pick up in your area. Looks like you're trying to expand too. Good luck and take care.

I've got thumbnails turned off. Is that a problem for anyone?

I thought it was easier to add a thumbnail, then a description, and then a thumbnail, etc. I am not near the computer guru that you are, so I feel lucky to upload an image. I think adding thumbnails makes it easier.

It's an 88 lb Striker. I'd like something a little bigger like everyone, but it works 1.5 inch stock ok. What I'd really like is a fly press I could afford. Before I croak maybe.

OK, I turned thumbnails back on, but I don't believe there is any way to insert a description between thumbnails.

Thanks Grant!!:wavespin::dance::wavespin::wub: Maybe now it will be easier to load pic's... If I can't do it easier, then you can give me the dunce cap and turn them back off.

Hope it doesn't disappoint you. It doesn't change uploading, just the display. As in thumbnail or full-size.

That looks like a press and hammer together. It must have been an interesting project. Did you build it? I considered building one but decided I'd better whitle down the list some. Give me a better chance to get through some of it.

It's one of two I'm building with a buddy. Hydraulic motor driven helve hammer, the foot pedal operates a flow control valve. Throws a 70 lb head, those are dump truck leaf spring packs, each spring is 3" wide, and 3/4" thick at the center. The stack weighs 65 lbs, I'm not sure of the physics, maybe half of that weight contributes to the "tup" ?
It'll get up to about 200 bpm at 12 gpm wide open. There's a cylinder below the spring center pivot, operates with that handle at the head, that raises or lowers the hammer head to dial in how high the hammer hits.
The forging press section pushes a 1" plate up (9"x8" opening) with a 7" ram (14" of throw). Should make near 60 ton at 3000 psi, the top down press with the adjustable table is a 5" ram with 11" of throw, should be good for 25 ton.
