I have never made it to a monthly meeting before, so I am curious how the open forge time works. If we bring steel and tools, are there anvils to work on? Do we all work on the demonstration projects or our own?

During the demonstrations, 9am-noon ish, everyone watches the demo.

After during lunch and after lunch the forges are open to work on the demo projects or on your own projects. It is NOT the place to work on projects for hire, i.e. using NWBA resources for personal financial gain.  Other than that, you can work on whatever you like, as long as you are working safely and sanely.  It is a great place to get some pointers from other more experienced blacksmiths, and get help directly from the demonstrator.

hope you make it to a demonstration open forge soon, a great benefit of your NWBA membership.

We’re currently set up with five propane forges, each of which can accept work in both sides. We have several anvils, post vices, and a selection of tongs, hammers, hand tools, etc. Some items have been recently spiffed up or are newly made. Others are in more need of attention.

Hope to see you soon!

No matter where you go... there you are.

Thanks! That sounds amazing. I’ll be there 🙂
