This is my first post in a forum, so sorry if I'm putting my question in the wrong place or something --

I'm planning an event, where I want a forge and anvil set-up on the outdoor patio for guests to view demos. I called ABC Rentals to order a 10 x 10 tent (with extra height), because it will be outdoors Feb. 15. They said the City of Seattle forbid any open flame in a tent, and they couldn't rent the tent to me if I was doing something illegal. Anyone have some insights into the legal code in the city of Seattle -- specifically the Georgetown neighborhood? thanks!

Hello, Claire

Start at your local fire hall and ask about a hot work permit . Request the firemen or fire Marshall to inspect the area. The firemen will know far more about what you propose and can make the nesseceary recommendations about your plans.  The tent rental company can only state what has happened to them in the past with a poorly planned event . If you utilize a manufactured forge ( U L labeled instead of home made) the fire department will be more receptive. With the proper planning and safety procedure in place your demo will be a huge success.Nothing will capture the public attention more than a red piece of steel and a ringing anvil. Have a great demo and good luck. Talk to the firemen ,you will not want them to visit you with sirens on During Demo Day. Safety first.
