Hey All:
I have a job coming up in which I need to punch 130 each 1/2" square holes through 1/4" bar stock... Thought I might build some tooling, as in a punch, a guide, and a bolster for use under my 25# Little Giant... Don't laugh, it's the biggest machine I have..
Any good ideas on tooling?? Also need to bend 1/2" square in an L shape 3/4" on one leg, inch and a 1/2 on the other... Working on using my Hossfeld for that... Any better ideas???
All the best,
Lynn

If you have access to a Whitney punch (I suggest a Whitney 20) it will make short work of that job. They are readily available at Tail Gate events. You may have to buy the 1/2" square punch and die. If you have to buy a punch it won't be wasted money. You will find lots of times when you can use it. Get it from Cleveland Tool Company rather than Whitney because of the priceing. You can punch 1/2" holes in 1/2" stock, cold with a Whitney 20.
If you know some one who has an Iron Worker and does railings he may have the punch and you may be able to work out a trade.
As for the short ells, cut the stock long, make the bend hot on the anvil then cut off the extra.

Lynn,
Your LG will make quick work of the holes. Make up a bolster with your hole on one side of center and a copper softener on the other side. Depending on where the holes go you could make up a guided stop all on the same tool.
If you need some help with the project I would be happy to come up and help.:playfull:

Thanks Wayne:
Based on your reply I called a buddy of mine who is a fabricator with every machine a guy could lust over!! He has an Ironworker and is working me up a price... Save me a lot of time in tool making, etc.
