At the camp smithy, we are looking to replace our 100lb propane tanks with a single large tank leased from a propane supplier. The tank would be located outside the smithy, with lines run underground from the tank to the posts of the smithy building.

We currently have 5 gas forges; 4 of Dave Lisch's single burner forges (like the ones at the mentoring center) and one 2 burner forge. We typically run these at around 20 psi.

The propane supplier says that the maximum pressure they can legally run in the underground line is 30 psi. It looks like we will be running 3/4" pipe. With that, do you think I'm going to be able to get 20 psi at 5 running forges?

What size hardlines are we running in Longview?

"Pressure" is the same everywhere in the system. ("System" in this case meaning "between regulators.") It is "flow"* that goes up with more burners online. The proposed pipe will handle current needs. It also has oodles and scads of growing room.

You'll want to regulate tank output pressure to a maximum of 24 or 25 psi - this will give a safety margin.

*Regulators work by forcing a reduction in flow. There is a relationship between pressure and maximum flow. Reduce the maximum flow, and pressure drops.

No matter where you go... there you are.

Hey, Amy,

Can we get a "report post" button added? Post #3 in this thread is pure spam for a New-York tin-bender.

Lee, I looked into what is currently available for this software and could not find anything to add a Report Spam, or Report this Post button.   I will need to re-up the membership in the software (needed to get support and to get new plugins) to be able to access more... I let the membership lapse while I don't need any help... it is a bit expensive ($39 for 2 months, $99 for a year). I have not had to get help for quite a while so have not kept it up.   Anyway, for now the only thing to do is  email me, or just add a reply post to alert me, I review the posts most every day, though not on Friday night to Saturday night.

thanks for the heads up. I deleted the post that was an ad.
