Hey Everyone.
I am building a new shop and decided to have a 550 gal. propane tank installed for the forge. It is buried and directly plumbed into the shop with flex line to the building and then black pipe inside to the forge. The propane co. provided a regulator at the tank and then one just before the plumbing enters the building.
Problem is, these regulators (even when cranked wide open) do not provide the pressure needed to run a forge. Years ago while taking classes at Old Cedar Forge, I noticed Jerry Culberson had 2 550 gal. tanks for his forges. But I don't know what he used as regulators.
So...what regulators do you use for your tanks?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Not sure how much pressure you need, but I run my forge at 8-10# on start up for the first 20-30 minutes to get m forge up to heat, then up to 10-12# when welding Damascus billets, then dow to 2-3# for general forging. I've got a ribbon burner and squirrel cage blower.
IIRC, when I was using an atmospheric forge, I'd have to about double the above numbers.

That sounds about right for an atmospheric forge, but I'm not an expert on the subject.
IMO, the best reason to switch to a ribbon burner is the reduction in shop noise.
From a forging perspective, once up to heat, no hot spot in the forge with a properly sized ribbon burner.
