Got to playin a bit, wanted to make a sword along the lines of the one piece tactikool hawk I made, using a similar idea of

-one piece construction
-tough as heyul
-aesthetically pleasing

Here is what I have so far. Forged from some 5/16" thick 5160, the blade has a slight leaf shape. Let me know what you think Cool

Well, it's, ah............interesting. That's pretty cool Sam. I love to see people experiment.

A little bit about where I am coming from Grant, I like the Bronze age stuff alot, nice flowing lines and shapes and wanted to create something along those lines in steel. Let me get some grinding done on it......

I like the crunchy pommel.

Doesn't the bronze age stuff usually have the leaf/gladius shape where it gets wider about 2/3rds of the way out the blade?

Also, I misplaced my favorite MOB chisel and now I see it on your stump in the last photo. 😉 I guess this means it's new year's cleaning time in the shop.

Playing in the sandbox again? I love it. That's something that can't be taught, you either got that creative bone in your you don't.....Can't wait to see it finished!

Lewis yes it does have a very slight leaf shape that will be more evident once I bevel and grind everything.

YES I took it and any others! I love the MOB chisels, the ones I get are from the lynch collection, I buy them every time I see them.

Thanks Bruce!

Really like that move on the handle where you rolled the material over. Thats an air hammer thing, I think. Tippy tap tap.

Yeah, I use that technique a ton. One of my favorite things about air hammers is how light they can hit. I miss that little 33lb. Most times I don't take it nearly as far, but it puts a nice lip on a piece for light to catch. One idea to jazz it up even more would be to chisel a design or some simple texture onto the flat before you roll it over. Your design then appears to come out of nowhere, if that makes sense.

I am going to have to try that Nuge thanks!!! Would fit very well with the mysticism around swords to do some geometric designs underneath. I have seen this upset in alot of german art books on ironwork, as well as raising a lip all around on different shapes.

I have a bladesmith friend that used to use the fold over/spreading technique for the finger choil, It made for a comfy grip.....The pommel is killer.

Also a set of tongs I made for myself, and you can see another pair in the photo of the sword.

Sam, that is an excellent sticker...

you know somethin...it does remind me alot of the old Persian swords and such... they had some very complex bronzes of several components..
- even the akinakes types swords are somewhat like it

I like the handle element... it came out very well

Thanks Greg! Those swords are gorgeous! I have yet been able to pin down the exact style of this piece, but it just feels ancient.
