I got back this past weekend from a Introduction to Japanese Sword Forging at http://www.dragonflyforge.com/ given by Michael Bell and assisted by his son Gabriel and apprentices Scott and Allen. ( had to give them kudos for their help as well. ) This week long class really puts you to the test cramming years of knowledge into just 5 short days. I probably would not have had such a hard time if my injury was not yelling at me every 5 minutes. But it was a wonderful class, we started by Forge Welding pieces of 1 1/8 cable up and using the trip hammer on then to get them into bar form and proceeded to draw them out and form blades. There was alot of help given of course and at times I felt very guilty about it. While there is still a ton of work to be done still it will keep me occupied on and off for some time. I plan on visiting a local friend with some 2 inch cable I procured a couple days ago and we will see if I can replicate what I've learned.

Looks real nice crisp grinding! Sure it will look stunning when done, have you heat treated yet?
Ive mixed feelings about P/W Japanese style blades, at the moment im a hamon chaser!
I did a week long course earlier this year with 'Mr Katana' Howard Clarke, you can sure fit a lot of learning into a short time! - courses are deffinatly the 'short cut' if there is such a thing.

No, it has been sitting on the bench for a bit, I have started looking at what I need to do to finish it lately, But I still have to fix the lines on it, grind the angles flat, part of which is the initial sharpening, then the interesting part is polishing. I just got ahold of 4 wet polishing stones but I have to finish the other steps before I work on the polishing..But before I even work on a personal project I need to make a few to sell, it is slow going for me, I am seeing about a new place that has a garage right now so I can work when I want and not be subject to the weather so much as I am now. Then I can also work at night when the kid is asleep. It does take me a while to get anything done, I just got done yesterday with a 2nd pass on some cable, but it started raining and being windy out there so..I think it is supposed to be semi dry tomorrow. The larger bar I was working on started screaming I wanna be a naginata at me so I put it aside because I have to get some blades together mainly several kitchen knives since I have a friend who knows a ton of chefs back east who may be interested but I have to get a couple done and sent to him to show around.
