Anvilfire.com sells kaolwool (ceramic wool), and Amazon has some I've seen as well. As for a non-online store, Seattle pottery supply might have refractory like that, but I've never been there.

We get it in large quantities at High Temp in Portland. http://www.hightempinc.net/ I don't know if they sell small quantities, but I would be willing to sell you what you need. If you don't mind dusty looking, I would only charge you postage. 🙂

I have purchased it from Seattle Pottery Supply, as well as the Clay Art Center in Puyallup.

They do have kiln-shelving which is pretty nice stuff for the floor of a gas forge. Doesn't soak up heat like brick would.
