Hi,

Last year, I bought Brent Christiansen's version of the "smithin' magician".  I got a bunch of 2" x 1/2" steel to make dies with.

If I am making dies to draw out a tenon to a known dimension, am I better off putting the entire shape in one die, (say, the top) or should I put half in the top die, and the other half in the bottom?

Also, does anyone know where in the portland area I can buy case-hardening compound?

Thanks!

For case hardening compound, try LaGrand Industrial Supply Company.

No matter where you go... there you are.

You should be able to find it at any welding supply store.

Hey Jason:

I'd think the die should be made with 1/2 the dimension you need on top, and 12 the dimension on the bottom...  Maybe you should call Brent, or email and ask him the question... Best to hear it from the man who made the tool!

Good to hear from  you!

Lynn
