Hi everyone,

I have just been given this anvil, and I need help with identifying the manufacturer...the photo with the logo clearly shows the word "BRAND" at the bottom but I cannot make out the top word. It weighs about 70lbs and is very beaten up. From the photos can anyone tell me if this anvil can be refurbished, maybe a new face welded on? If so, what steel would I use for the face, and what thickness? BTW I'm in BC, Canada if that helps the identification process.

Thanks for your help

Vulcan brand, you can see a pic at http://www.anvilfire.com/anvil.....ed_007.php

It is considered a lower tier Cast anvil.  That means a ball bearing won't bounce as high when you do the drop test, (means you work harder to move metal as work absorbed more of the hammer blow).

You need to ask someone who welds tops on if it is worth the effort or if you should try to find a better anvil.  Also I suggest size of at least 165lb.s for a shop anvil. But when you are starting you sometimes have to work with what you have.

Good luck
