Spent about 4 hours making a hot cutter w/ 7/8" shank for my anvil. Had a good deal of help though to make sure it came out right and to make working it MUCH easier. Fits nice and snug and has a good edge. Made from a tie rod end.

After that decided to forge my first pair of tongs. Took a couple hours and came out like this:

We dug through my teacher's iron pile and found a couple pieces of "mild steel." Turned out we were half right. lol. The side with the box shaped jaw ended up being tool steel. Explains why it was such a b**** to work, let alone drill. Needless to say they came out fairly heavy but at least they hold knives really well.
Was a very productive day. 😀 So what'd'ya think? Not bad for a newb, eh?
Because blacksmithing is totally Metal! /../
