This is my 215lb 9" post vise... Ive talked to quite a few in the know guys and this is a pretty rare bird... would be the equivalent of a 700lb anvil in sparsity...

Anyway... I talked to the matchless Antiques guy who sells all the high dollar stuff on ebay.... he said a 8 3/4 is as big as he has seen... ditto for the Green and Mengel crew... So I was braggin about it to someone the other day, and they said Jerry Culberson has a 10"...... Can anyone back that up?

Not that it matters, and I know there have got to be bigger vises out there

with a 3.5" vise for scale

[Image Can Not Be Found] the 9" on the left and my 8" on the right wit hthe 3.5" in the center...

Whatever you are, be a good one.

After seeing Clifton forge one of these out I may have a challenge on my hands when the Niles is up and running again. A big 12" anyone?:skull:

How big you want? There comes a point where the handle hits the floor I suppose.

a 14" is the mythical monster... And it should weigh in at about #350 lbs assembled with a 2" screw To me if your going to go big, you should go all the way... I mean how much MORE work could it be to build a 14" than a 12"?
