The appendage sticking out on the off side of the anvil, round in shape, is called a clip horn... It is used for drawing clips on horse shoes. A clip is kind of a metal tab which, when hammered against the hoof of the horse, helps to keep the shoe from moving.. Really helps the nails to hold the shoe.
