I thought I would shoot a picture of a batch of Stumptown Rounding hammers. The picture on left are the 1.75lbs as forged and then 2 lbs completed. These are forged from 1 1/2" round 4340 and 1 3/4".

Good looking job there Ken! You bedding them with Sikaflex?

Grant,

I am using Silka Flex 11FC. If you degrease the hammers and shape the handle to hold the glue as Hofi shows on one of his blueprints on IFI, I have had terrific luck. In fact, I have only ever had one hammer loosen which was probably a result of my own error and not that of the product. I have broken several handles which on my main hammer took about 5 years and the only repairs I've made has been handles and not adhesives.

When I first moved to Oregon I could not believe how fast my hammer handles would become loose. No matter how carefully I would wedge them they would loosen. Then I learned to soak them in antifreeze. What a pain in the butt. With the humidity and constant freeze thaw cycles here our hammers sweat and the wood swells and contracts. So when I got my first Hofi Hammer I saw that this did not occur. Since then I have been glueing all of my hammers. Thanks to Hofi for sharing this with me.

I wondered what the white stuff was. Sikaflex, eh? I've been rehandling tools with construction adhesive for years. It does a fine job, too.
