That's what MS Paint can do in less than 5 minutes. I TOTALLY misunderstood your post, Larry L. I was just commenting on the basics of isolating and refining a snub end. 9am on a Saturday is too early for critical thinking :nerd:

I'm assuming it's going to come down to the first fuller operation after you get the button isolated and punched. Fullering the top of the stock causes it to bow slightly along the length with greater effect towards the tip where the groove widens. Kind of like how you counter bend a blade before forging the bevel.

Of course I could be WAY off since I've never tried one of these, but I plan on trying one soon so I'm sure I'll have a pile of ugly wings 🙂

Sorry about the confuzzies!

Jim

I've made about 6 cranes of various sizes. I still would like to try a big one out of like 3/4 x 4" but haven't had time to Play lately

Example number 4 is wonderfully artistic, and reflects the imagery of the Book of Kells. I absolutely love it. I am also very impressed by your "storyboard" descriptive technique. Thank you. If I can achieve your results after destroying no more than a half ton of steel I will be very proud of myself.
