That’s great info guys, I however need to do a little backpedaling, after reading this post:

And doing a little research on this subject, you may not want to buy a hydroponic fan, I wouldn’t want to wake up with the police pointing guns at me, and tearing my world apart while I’m trying to tell them I’m a blacksmith. And when they found the flux can, well, I wouldn’t want to see you in jail for life.:hot:
it's been fun, later!

Hey John, you'd just get distracted by an induction heater and wouldn't have time to come up with good ideas like your tong jig. Seriously though, if you ever get chance to have a play around with one, do so. I know I'm totally biased and rave on about them but seeing one work "in the flesh" is something else
Oh yeah, I'm loving what I reading about ribbon burners and will start playing around with one when I can find time

John
The stuff on my latest bit of work (see this thread) gives agood indication of the versatility of induction heaters

I think you should shoot for $6K John... The 25KV unit Grant quoted $5K plus you need a cooling system... No sense messing around with the little 15KV unit
Whatever you are, be a good one.

Gotta agree there, for the extra dosh, the 25KVA machine gives you so much more. I've not compared it directly to the 15KVA but have seen plenty of them on you tube.
Re cooling I've got a way under rated (for the heater) Tweco TC900 cooler but I basically just use this as pump and a tank. The return line goes through a 20' coil of 8mm copper tube sat in my slack tub. This acts as a pretty good heat exchanger. If I need extra cooling when caning the heater I flow cold water from the tap into the bottom and out of the top of the tub.
I'll post a diagram

Hey,
You wealthy Seattle smiths must have these things laying around unused in storage lockers. Gimme a break! We just eat salmon, crabs and clams. I'm just one of those poor smiths who depend on fall outs from above.
6 k! Holy shit! We can't all be Grant Sarver... 🙂

I kinda see the cost relatively. Many smiths will happily drop a few k on a plasma cutter or invertor tig and I think they'd get as much if not more use out of a heater
Salmon clams and crabs ....... boy am I starting to get hungry.

Ok...so my 25 yr old son, graduate of OR State in bus mgmt, lives in the apt above the garage, and is a rep f/surf/snowboard gear...and as such, spends a fair amount of time on the road and water. This aftn, he and some friends took some ocean kayaks and caught a number of sea bass and ling cod. What was I doing...duh...working. Whats wrong w/this picture? Absolutely nothing! Fresh fish for dinner! Life is good.
