Well, here goes!
I am starting to put together a small shop so I can begin to scratch the itch I have to start blacksmithing.
I took a beginners course at JC Campbell Folk School last October. It was wonderful and I want to continue as a hobbyist.
I do not have any tools so looking for advice and tools.
Any input and suggestions is greatly appreciated.

Thank you, and you do beautiful work.
I guess I should start with your friend in Salem. Is it possible for you to give him my email address? john@bickleyartisanconcrete.com.
BTW, the shop I will be starting in is about 500 sf. Does that sound big enough?
Thank you,
John

Mercy!!!
My shop space is around 900 s.f. and I am constantly trying to move around stuff... Especially with a 7 foot gate... Goat trails through everything...

I can hardly imaging even working with something 7 foot long! Big difference between hobbyist and pro.
For tools for a beginner, the very best advice I can offer is to make some of your own. There's a huge learning potential in making one's own tongs. Chisels and punches and fullers can be churned out pretty quickly once one gets the hang of them.
As you make more and more things, you'll have a better idea of where you want to go with the craft, and what tools you'll need to get there.
No matter where you go... there you are.
