Hi all, I have noticed that alot of the blacksmiths here advertise what's going on here. I have noticed that I can't seem to post a nice big ad like you all have done for the Spokane Fair, LARRY's HAMMER IN, etc, etc ... what I have noticed is that no one has bothered to advertise that the Puyallup Fair is running and that a group of OUR NWBA blacksmiths are participating. I am curious as to why, did we all forget about it? Maybe I'm not sure because I am a new member comparatively to most of yourselves.

I would think that a lot of you would want to participate because of the number of people that you come in contact with during the Fair ... talk about drumming up business!

So anyway, the Puyallup Fair is September 10-26th, 2010 if anyone cares to either help me post this or give me instructions on how I can do it myself, it would be greatly appreciated, thank you Brad Roland.

Hi Brad...

I am going out on a limb here and I certinly am not opposed to reminding people in the group about all the hard work the smiths who peddle there wares at the fair put in... But Blacksmiths are absolutely not interesting in going and buying trinkets from other blacksmiths... As one of the Auctioneers at the NWBA events I can tell you the hardest sell to a smith is a dinner bell or fire poker....

I know several smiths who rely on the fair and a major source of there income... and work most of the year to build inventory for the few weeks they sell... It has become a staple of our group and is pretty much just a part of life.... Which is probably why you saw no mention of it... We all know someone who is set up at the fair.... or many people... I can think of at least 5 with out even taking a moment to think....

I wouldnt take it as "no one thought it was important enough" We all understand and appreciate how vital it is to bringing awareness to the public and provide a venue to sell... But its everyone else who we need to advertise it too... Other than going by and seeing what everyone has out for sale and showing our support what would you like us to do?

I understand its a huge deal and we need to respect what the fair says about us and our presence... I just dont know what putting a big ad on the front page of the website that says "dont forget the fair!" is going to help?

Maybe I am off base.... Like I said I am not opposed to it... and maybe I missed the point entirely

Whatever you are, be a good one.

ahh, good point there, never really thought about it that way ... but now that you brought it up ...

I look at the Fair as more of a way to recruit new members into the NWBA, there are a lot of younger folks who appear to be interested in the craft.

I'm also not a full time Blacksmith either, I'm a hobbyist at this time and have another job I must work to pay my bills. So I guess I'm one of those that spends all year making stuff for the fair, lol (at least for now). I'm also just learning about this trade which I find awesome! So please forgive me as I learn more about this field and trade.

I agree 100% Brad, but we have a limited volunteer editorial staff. This website runs on user contributed content. If someone has the information and the interest they can post it on the website. Anything you believe should be on here, you can post. If there is something missing, it's because no one was interested enough to post it (or didn't know they could or didn't know how). Once it's posted we might choose to expand it to other parts of the site.

This is exactly how the Larry's race event got here; Larry posted it.
Steve McGrew has volunteered to contribute news from the eastern part of the state.

thank you Brad Roland.

Actually, you can do that too. It's under "member articles" in the news section. But many originate in the forums and the information is simply copied to the news and reformatted.

The editing tools allow you to make a splash of it!

Add pictures or whatever you like!
[Image Can Not Be Found] You can just play with the tools and see what they do. Don't worry; you can't break anything. Learn to insert pictures rather than attaching them too. With insert you can also position and resize pictures by "hovering" on them with your mouse and clicking on the edit pencil.

Sorry I can only do so much!
