    Kerrihard

    Aloha all,
I am (finally 10+ years later) continuing and hopefully completing soon, restoration of a 30# kerrihard hammer. Found a machine shop to finish the new arms that I had cast , and fiddling with random bits. The only obvious thing I am missing is the main shaft, and apart from it's diameter, don't know quite what to have made. Wondering if there is someone out there with a running hammer that could help me along.

    Thanks,
    Ethan

Why not have your machinist turn another?...

Define "main shaft". Do you mean the crankshaft or the beam "shaft" or helve? I remember the Kerrihard having a pipe arm sorta thing.

Yeah, making a new crankshaft is the plan, just not sure what to make
as far as I can guess the shaft has a thread cut at each end. The layout best I can figure from right to left is nut, clutch plate, drive wheel, cam-treadle, frame, eccentric, frame, bearing, nut. Any other spacers, bearings, whatnots, etc...???

I figured if someone has a runner, a couple pics and an overall shaft length should gimme a place to start.

    Can't wait for the clackity-clack!!
