Bruce, thanks for the links. MOST impressive. Having now seen it in operation, I was wondering if a machine I bought some years back would be able to do similar work. I have never used the machine because quite frankly, I was'nt sure what it was and how it worked. I bought it becase I liked the look of it and it was cheap. Cost more to transport.
Incidentally, do you not run the risk of drawing the temper from the top tool when using it on hot material?
A cheap Pullmax....Now there's a new one! The cheapest used PX I've seen on Ebay is is near 7k, you might consider selling that one and buying 5 of mine lol. The use of the word MAX in the title of mine is no accident.
The PX is the Rolls Royce of sheet metal forming tools but not as versatile as mine. I think yours could do linear grooving if you made custom dies for that purpose but the way yours is set up there isn't much room for forming/planishing. The ZX could be custom built with a deeper throat and taller working space but the standard unit meets most needs.
I suppose doing hot work would with the chisels would draw out some hardness in the chisels but the steel in them is pretty damm good and I don't know what it is but it's tough......Keeping a chisel(s) dedicated for hot work is probably a good idea.
Thanks for your interest....BM
