Babe is a great "tool model." Nice picture of the hammer too. Could you comment on the performance. What do you use it for mostly? I seem to remember it had great control. If I remember Grant said he used a control and valving system different than usually in a similar hammer.

    Thanks for posting the pictures!

  3. The "little Babe" is a 14 pound--air operated--electric controled hammer with single stroke OR full resiprocation ability. Electric solinoids control the air valving for operation. You can adjust the "lift speed" and the "drive speed" seperatly for pretty good control. One of the many brain children of the late Grant Sarver in conjuntion with Jack Slack. Jack was responsible for the final electric controls while Grant dreamed and machined the mechanical actions. Grant told me he added weights to the ram until it was 25 pounds and the hammer operated the same. Prety good margin of safety. We dont operate in the 25 pound range currently. with the air regulator (as pictured) you can turn it down to almost a falling 14 pounds or crank it up to a pretty healthy smack. Nice little hammer for design work or rough reposue work. Maybe Jack Slack can tell us more about the development process????

    Good Morning,

Grant was VERY PROUD of the control. He would hold a copper penny with his fingers and operate the hammer with his foot. "This is how you make a lop-sided penny" he would say with the Cheshire grin!!
