    Good Morning and welcome,

Greetings from the continent of Vancouver Island. There are quite a few Blacksmith's in the Vancouver/Frazer Valley area, your side of the puddle. They started a group at the Burnaby Museum, but I don't know if they are still getting together. Most are members of the NWBA or Vancouver Island Blacksmith Association (www.viblacksmiths.com).

Enjoy the journey, don't be afraid to ask. Keep your ears open and sometimes close to the ground, you never know what will accidentally come to you.

You don't have to worry about breaking the rules, Hot metal is a great teacher. The lessons have a great way of making you remember what didn't work and what did work. Common Sense is a huge factor.

    Welcome, Reid!

If you can't find coal then you can use lump charcoal. It's more expensive than coal but it works well.

Tom means real wood charcoal, not briquettes such as Kingsford.
