A friend recently gave me a coil of wrought iron telegraph wire and it brought back fond memories of the Colorado Ren Fair back in the 80's......I used to demo these little hearts and sold a few, the others I would give to fair maids and they sometimes brought me luck.....;-)
They are tricky little buggars to make especially if you only have the forge to heat them while bending them to shape, a torch works way better. Making the welds as small as possible is key to making it look right. If you notice the bundle forge welded at both ends, the one on the left has been welded much too far back and the right one (which I used) could be smaller yet. The second weld at the tip is the hard one cause it's real easy to deform the shape, and once it's welded it is tough to correct.
