I watched David Tuthill forge this piece at Enumclaw fair grounds sometime around 2003?...2004? Could of been a little sooner.Dave was a little upset when one of the punched and drifted holes on the lower bar tore out. I still have a big pile of the iron round bar that David was working. It is referred to by some as muck bar.( 1st rolled, unrefined wrot iron ) it is layered with silica which is apparent in Dave's forging. Somtimes it just doesn't matter, as careful as you can be and the work still separates. Please attach the discription of this piece in our archives .... Nice work David.

Hi Tom, that's a heck of a knife but with a handle like that I reckon it'll never need sharpening. I break out into a huge grin just looking at it. Keep up the good work! Andy

Hi Zac, _ good one! Does it release the nails easily? All the ones I made so far must be very fond of nails because they like to hang on to them. Cheers Andy

Who made this rose and can we get him to show or tell us how he/she did it. I make one by using 2" of 1" round stock. Draw out 1" for the stem and upset the other inch into a 3 or 4" disk and split out 6 petals. This one has 10 petals and is very well done. I would like to improve mine.Thank you.

I am a student at Clackamas Community College in the Advanced Blacksmithing Class taught by Bert Romans. We are doing the candleholder project similar to what you have pictured. So far I have done three of them, all with variations. It is a challenging exercise to start with the basic project and work it into something different. Both the basic and advanced blacksmithing classes at the college are an excellent way to master the basics of the craft and move on to more challenging projects under the guidance of a qualified instructor.
