The French word repoussé means “pushed up” and “chasing” from the French word, chaser meaning to drive out. This technique is used to create three-dimensional imagery on flat sheets of metal. You will begin by making your own chasing tools, learning to forge, grind, harden, and temper tool steel. Moving on to work sheets of brass, copper, or silver in pitch, you will make three-dimensional reliefs. Through exploring cold connections, soldering, and basic construction you will transform your pieces into wearable art or functional objects.
