Actually in a way it is about the trade. Except for folks who became successful at doing artistic railings and light fixtures for rich folks, lots of guys went the way of "Steam Hammer Sam". Product of change and a picture of those who couldn't change...
Sorry if I wax too philosophical here. Eric Sprado

Eric,

If you said it was about The Trades in general I would agree. I don't think the larger story is specific to blacksmith's or forging. Steam Hammer Sam is nicely alliterative and makes for good visuals.

Didn't have time to list ALL THE TRADES.You're right-the video is not really all that pertinent,I just wanted to point out a part of it that hits home with my generation...
Something in me knows that man in the video and invokes a little sadness....

lol eric. spot on. it is about the trade. the tools we all play with were worked seriously for years. Those with the most skill didn't start making art.

The skills that were lost to the bean counters is huge.

Plus there is a Hammer in a music vid How often does that happen.( I'll track down the clip of a power hammer in a porn as well if everyone wants;)
Power hammers do not appear in things other than trade very often. I take note. and the story of the Sam the man that was laid off but remembered is Very pertinent to the UK where boat loads of skilled trades men were suddenly lost.
Do you see the smile on his face when he's working.
The look when he's told he can't play on it anymore;(
That's a working mans club that they drink in. union Hall probably.

I can't see how this is not about smithing. Industrial smithing maybe but still smithing.

As for the song. ehh whatever. just a joke to me because thats Simon la bon from duran duran;)

Google ''General Iron works'' and there lies a small speck of detritus that was part of the skilled occupations that many Sam's here and the UK worked. Guess he can go greet at Wall Fart now :poop:
