Got a 25# Little Giant Power hammer that we are looking for advice on a base to build for it. The floor of our blacksmithing area is dirt/gravel. Definitely willing to pour a concrete pad, and I see the specs on the Little Giant Page (21" deep by 41" x 29") but looking for some advice from anyone who may have had to pour a slab for this. Would you recommend adding some around the exterior? Also wondering if it was 4'x4'x12" if that would have the same anchoring result (thinking it would be a good idea to have some room on a solid stable surface to move around it) or if that would just crack.
The diagram also shows anchoring bolts with steel plates on the bottom in during the pour, but someone thinks it will be fine to just drill holes and add bolts later. Anyone have experience with this?
I've also seen videos of people putting their power hammers on a base of 4x4's bolted together to make a pad. Is this something you would do on top of the concrete?
Thanks in advance for any help you might have.

I'd go with what Little Giant says. Consider that a minimum. You need the mass. Also anchor as suggested or you're wasting your time. But I guess it all depends on how long you want it to last.
There's a saying "buy once, cry once." ie: do it right the first time.
Just my two cents though.
as always
