Its been a crazy spring for me. I had the best few months Ive had in a long time and now fell flat on my face again... I was really hoping the pace of things would continue and the work flow would stay strong but this last month was ugly... Just curious what the rest of you think about work and the economy?

Whatever you are, be a good one.

I has been a little slow since mid winter although most of the work that does come in is panic rush. Part of the problem is I have been avoiding doing too much work for one of my major customers. He owes me quite a bit of money and is paying a fixed amount most weeks so I am trying not to allow his account to grow. He had a huge account go bankrupt on him last year and he just doesn't have the cash but I cannot afford to put myself in the same position he put himself in. As well the US Steel steel mill here in town has been locked out since early November.

I have been steady since last September. As far as blacksmithing and fab work not to busy. I will finish a project and another shows up. My bread and butter work is welding repair and out source welding for businesses. I have been doing alot of TIG welding for some gun smiths. For some reason they always seem busy. The last couple of weeks the phone calls have slowed down.

We are still going OK here in Aus, while the world still needs coal, Newcastle NSW will still keep on digging it out of the ground and sending it away in ships. So long as that happens things will still wear out and need replacing, so we will still have work.
Lost one of our trademan last week, so it means I'm back on the tongs every day now, still have one tradesman and a 1st year apprentice so all is not lost. Gonna be looking for another tradesman in a few months though when this one goes back to France.

Out East it's been crazy like you mentioned, Larry. The Spring was great, now nothing. I start a 40 hour week for the "man" cad drafting on Monday. I hate the idea of not being able to do what I love after all of this time at it. Have to do it though.

Here's the cartoon as I have it posted on my frig.

I've just finished the invoices for this month, this month has been the best for work out the door since I started working for myself, and I started that about 16 years ago I guess.
Overall the sales for the year to date are shit, but this months are excellent.
