Like most families with smithing in there blood, I was curious about family history in metal working of any kind. It took a couple years of tracing the line back because I was adopted. But I found that my 2nd Great Grandfather was the owner and founder of City Forge and Iron Works at 1309 Western ave. in Seattle. Finding lead me to think 1890 to about 1940 the family worked and owned the shop. The trade was also part of there lives in Scotland and Canada.
The families name was McLellan.
I stated this topic to find his Touchmark or Makers Mark and maybe get some information about what blacksmiths in Seattle made other than tools for the gold rush and shoeing horses and oxen. Being that the shop was right in the middle of Downtown at that time, there are most likely some great pieces made there and other shops of that time. So who knows or has any family that were in that area at that time or similar?
