Greetings from Indiana.
The name is Joe.
I am new to any kindof blacksmithing but not new to metals. I have worked on machinery and ahealthy amount of metal fabrication, just not with a forge. I bought a shopwith 2 lathes, 1 mill, a cast iron forge a small foundry box but no furnace. Ihope I will be building one next year.) A lot of metal working tools. As mentionedI am new to blacksmithingbut I am looking forward to the blacksmith fieldalthough due to health it will probably not be more than a useful hobby. I havea lot of equipment but not a lot of knowledge in this art. So I will read what Ican and will ask a lot of questions. Please excuse my ignorance. I will try tofix it.

Joe

Welcome, there is a strong Blacksmith Association in Indiana, check out the ABANA web-site for contact information. Clifton Ralph lives in Gary, he has forgotten more than most people will ever know. I think Dave Brandon also lives in that part of the world, Dave is a member of the NWBA (probably a life member or should be). Contact the local ABANA Group and they will steer/help you along the correct path.

The problem with what you are asking is, there is NO ONE PLACE TO START. The key is to START the journey, there is NO enough, There is NO LIMIT, There is no end!! There are an awful lot of helpful people all around the world in this BLACKSMITH WORLD. Just when you think you are at a point of no answer, Someone will come up with an answer.

Enjoy the journey, Don't start your stop watch, it doesn't work that way.:giggle:
