As a devoted follower of esoteric foreign film, I have seen most every cheap action movie made in Bulgaria and Romania lately- no, I am not proud, just a devoted Cineaste.
This trend may have been due to the high prices in Hollywood, or just due to Wesley Snipes tax troubles, but it seems like more and more cheezy action films are being made in Eastern Europe.

So, the other night, I was enriching my intellect by watching Assassination Games, a recent film by the noted Belgian star Jean Claude Van Damme, and what did I see but a lot of beautiful power hammers?

It has become de-rigeur for action films to have the "abandoned factory" scene, and, in this one, the abandoned factory was not abandoned at all, but instead, a working industrial forge, with rows of 1000kg and larger hammers, including at least one 5000lb or so arch hammer, all in working condition- in fact, it appears the film was shot on a weekend, as the hammers were surrounded by work in progress- lots of 1000lb pieces of steel partially forged.

So, if you are a fan of ridiculous knife fighting, silly dialogue, and short guys delivering roundhouse kicks to the head, PLUS you like power hammers, this is the film for you.

Several scenes are shot in the forge, including a pretty long fight scene between the two principals, allowing views of many hammers, extra dies arranged in rows on the floor, and work in progress. The lighting could have been better, and Van Damme gets in the way a lot, but still worth watching.

Great timing. I just watched a van damme film last night. Now I know what to have my roommate try to find to watch tonight for when I get back from the fort. :smug:

If you were to watch the Full Monty, you would see that the opening parts and also some footage of the guys trying to learn to dance are set in a fairly large forge shop (seemingly abandoned) somewhere in England.
